Doc Soup 2022-23 Season to Launch with Michelle Shephard's The Perfect Story

Hot Docs is pleased to announce the much-anticipated return of its popular Doc Soup monthly subscription screening series for its 22nd season. With screenings from October to April, the 2022-23 season will feature some of the year's newest and most captivating docs, followed by insightful Q&As with filmmakers and special guests.

The beloved must-see series for Toronto’s film community will kick off with the Toronto premiere of award-winning Canadian investigative reporter Michelle Shephard’s gripping new documentary The Perfect Story, followed by a live Q&A with the director and special guests at Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema, 506 Bloor Street West.

THE PERFECT STORY
A Frequent Flyer Films and NFB co-production, The Perfect Story (D: Michelle Shephard I Canada I 2021 I 74 mins) offers a riveting, intimate look at the ethical and moral challenges sparked by the relationship between a foreign correspondent and a young Somali refugee. By revealing the boundaries of journalism and filmmaking, the film questions what stories are told, why, and who gets to tell them. To expand on the themes raised in the film, the screening will be followed by a specially curated panel led by director Michelle Shephard and featuring journalists and experts.

PATH OF THE PANTHER
Through the eyes of the Florida panther, we discover the beating heart of a lost wilderness. Yet the guardians of this species are in a desperate struggle. Filled with her beloved hits and new compositions as well, the film pulls back the curtain on Omara’s previously private life. Exploring the Cuban Revolution, her meteoric rise to fame, and life as a single mother in Communist Cuba, this film serves both as a history of the Latin music revival and a testament to this amazing woman's resiliency and talent.
