JOB DESCRIPTION
As a Financial Analyst at Hot Docs, you will play a key role in supporting the financial operations of the organization. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will be responsible for analyzing financial data, preparing reports, and providing valuable insights to aid in decision-making processes. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyze financial data and trends to provide insights and recommendations for improving financial performance;
- Prepare financial reports, including monthly financial statements, budget variance analysis, and forecasting models;
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and long-term financial plans;
- Conduct ad-hoc financial analysis and special projects as requested by management;
- Monitor and track financial performance against budget and forecast, identifying areas of concern or opportunity;
- Support the Director of Finance in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes;
- Collaborate with other departments to gather financial information and support cross-functional initiatives;
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices in financial analysis and reporting;
- Act as a key problem-solver, identifying and addressing financial challenges and opportunities through analytical thinking and creative solutions;
- Support month-end processes (account reconciliations, posting/adjusting Journal Entries);
- Utilize advanced Excel functionalities such as VLOOKUP and macros to streamline financial analysis and reporting tasks;
- Assist with government reporting requirements, including data analysis and submission of necessary reports;
- Support basic GAAP understanding and ensure compliance with regulatory standards in financial reporting and operations;
- Assist with annual audits and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements;
- Utilize strong numerical skills to analyze financial statements, budgets, and forecasts effectively.
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field;
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in financial analysis or related role;
- Strong understanding of financial principles and concepts;
- Proficiency in financial modeling and analysis techniques;
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities;
- Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);
- Expert in Microsoft Excel, including macros, pivot tables, VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP;
- Experience with CRM systems (Salesforce), and box office software (Agile Ticketing Solutions) is considered an asset;
- Strong analytical skills with a demonstrated ability to solve complex problems;
- Experience with QuickBooks Premier Nonprofit Edition is preferred;
- Demonstrate a keen interest in the arts sector, contributing to the financial success of Hot Docs' initiatives in promoting documentary filmmaking;
- Certification is not required but is a plus.
